This garden had a patio adjoining the house but it was not big enough for entertaining a large family and guests so an additional, larger dining area was needed. There was a shrub border opposite the existing patio which needed incorporating in the final design.
The clients wanted a satellite patio but also needed some colourful herbaceous planting to soften two large areas of paving. A path was needed to the satellite patio and to the larger garden beyond.
A circular patio in Natural Paving Premiastone copper slate is edged with granite setts. A sandstone sphere with Cornish cobbles provides architectural interest and a bespoke oak pergola with a slatted roof gives shade for the dining area. A gravel path with inset oak sleeper steps, lined with Agapanthus, links the existing and new patio areas and also provides a link to the shrub border. The borders are planted with perennials in shades of blue, pink and purple.
